CURRICULUM

I keep my curriculum in line with the Utah State Core Standards so that when your child goes to Kindergarten, they are prepared and don't have any surprises.

I believe in regularly assessing the individual needs of your child.  I create centers where I am able to give them one-on-one time to help them with any particular item they might be struggling with (cutting paper, writing their name, learning numbers, letter sounds, sight words, etc).

My Curriculua and focus is divided into six categories including:

  • Language Arts

  • Math

  • Science

  • Creative Arts

  • Social/ Emotional Development

  • Physical Health

Each area of development is equally important to your child.

Language Arts

Your Child will be exposed to many different forms of written text, literature, storytelling etc. throughout the year.  The preschoolers will be taught each letter in four different ways:(phonetic awareness, recognition of the symbol, association, and how to properly write it.)  The children will have many centers focused on letter recognition, sounds, and even beginning reading for those who are ready for it.

Math

Students will learn all about counting, different forms of measurement, shapes (including geometric shapes), and numbers.  Students will also learn to recognize numbers in their world.  They will learn their address and phone number.

Science

Throughout the year students will have the opportunity to explore all kinds of different experiments!  When learning about Weather, we will make our own clouds that rain.  We will make our own playdough during COLOR week.  We will plant seeds and watch them grow.  We even do a little baking.

Creative Arts

Creative arts is an extremely fun part of my job.  Preschoolers have such wonderful imaginations and truly love to create their own artwork.  We use all kinds of manipulative art tools.  We paint regulary with sponges, brushes, hands, fingers, apples, spools of thread...you name it and we can paint with it!  Glitter, pom poms, feathers, foam, beads, popsicle sticks, googly eyes, etc. are just a few of the items we use for our projects. We complete at least one art project a week (sometimes daily).

Social/ Emotional

Students learn how to interact with each other  and how to play well with one another.  Many opporutinties are provided to help students create imaginitve play.  Preschool children will have the opportunity to learn classroom rules and adhere to them.  Incentives and stickers are given for proper behavior and then students get to pick a prize from a treasure chest.

Physical Health

Students are taught all about "Healthy ME".  We have group motor activities and musice time daily to encourage proper Motor Development.   We have units focused on proper eating, physical exercise, and even taking care of our TEETH :)
